The Goose that Never Moves
This is the story of the goose that never moves
From its concrete platform by the river’s bend
With passersby wondering how it behooves
The mayor and the cops to have rules so loose
To let a goose command a strand of public land.
This is the story of the goose that never moves,
In truth it seems the public tacitly approves
This Summer laxity with order, law, and reprimand
With passersby wondering how it behooves
To bring tributes of grass and seed and bread, let loose
From the parapet above with careful hand.
This is the story of the goose that never moves,
An anchoress whose holy vow the world improves
When against its firmness our beliefs look bland,
With passersby wondering how it behooves.
As I picture it in pictures I wonder if it wants to prove
That a bird like her can fight the urges nature doth intend.
This is the story of the goose that never moves,
With passersby wondering how it behooves.
